What is
Hospice Care?
HOSPICE CARE is for people who are nearing the end of life. It focuses on comfort, support, and quality of life. Palliative care is for people with serious illnesses at any stage. It also focuses on comfort and quality of life, and it can be given while someone is still receiving treatment. Hospice care is usually given at home or in a hospice facility. Palliative care is often provided in a hospital or clinic. A person can receive palliative care first and later move to hospice care if their illness gets worse.
PALLIATIVE CARE is for people living with serious illness, no matter how long they may live. It is not based on a time limit like hospice care. People receiving palliative care may still be getting curative treatment. The main goal is to improve quality of life by managing symptoms and providing emotional, spiritual, and practical support. Palliative care can be provided in many settings and may be given alongside hospice care. Palliative care teams may include: - Attending physicians - Hospice medical directors - Registered nurses - Social workers - Chaplains - Bereavement counselors
